IN COMPANY WITH MUTOID - PART II

The original Pre-Acid House Warehouse Party Party People, Notting Hill and Shepherd's Bush based Mutoid Waste Company, combined music, art and performance art into their own unique brand of late Nineteen Eighties DIY culture at its best. With home grown catch phrases such as 'Mutate or Die' their own original collectively conscious personal philosophy was to revolve around the recycling of other people's waste products, everything from old wellington boots to wrecked cars, into self created user servicable art works. Amongst those who could claim to have been influenced by them in some way were one time Hackney based Techno Terrorists Spiral Tribe and a whole host of other party people and rave organizers too numerous to list here. This video, shot by Notting Hill based underground film maker Jonathan Barnett, includes footage of their now legendary 'Car Henge' from Michael Eavis's Glastonbury music festival....Part 2 of a series......

THE DOG THAT LOVES A RIOT

There has been lots of riots and protests from both anarchists and workers in Athens, Greece specially the past few years. One interesting thing is that there is one dog that is spotted at these riots from 2008 till today! It's a streetdog that lives an the central square in the alto/anarcho district in Athens. He also seems to love a good riot :)

FUCK THE MONARCHY

APRIL 15 - STEAL SOMETHING FROM WORK DAY

Settling the Score: Millions to Celebrate Steal Something From Work Day

On April 15, 2010, millions of employees around the world will steal from their workplaces. Sweatshop seamstresses will slip spools of thread under their sweaters. Cashiers will outsmart surveillance cameras to pocket cash from registers. Secretaries will pilfer envelopes, carpenters will slip screws into their tool belts, baristas will treat their friends to lattes on the house. Employers expect to lose hundreds of thousands of dollars to employee-organized shrinkage in the US alone.

April 15 is celebrated as Steal Something From Work Day, an awareness day focusing on the ways, means, and causes of workplace theft. As one website associated with the campaign proclaims, “Steal Something From Work Day calls attention to the motivations behind employee theft and the horizons ahead of it. Viewed in terms of individual cases, this phenomenon appears to be a matter of isolated misbehavior; but taken as a whole, it indicates simmering discontent with capitalism itself.”

Outside earshot of their employers, many working people admit that the campaign resonates with them. “If you took all the wealth in the US and divided it by the number of people who live here, it would come out to something like $150,000 each,” explains career wage slave Robin Bossis. “I come from a hard-working family, but none of us have ever seen that kind of money. That’s because we have to spend our lives working for corporations that keep most of the profits of our labor for themselves. The least an honest person can do is take back a little of what he earned.”

Steal Something From Work Day is celebrated by white collar workers as well, according to receptionist Emma Bezel. “With the economy in turmoil and executives losing credibility through fraud and dirty dealing, stealing from your job isn’t just for criminals anymore,” she reports. “For many of us, the bank bailout was the last straw. We’re sick of selling our lives away to make the rich richer."

SUNKEN FORESTS

"Whether viewed from above or below the surface of the water, whether they are alive or dead, they stand like apparitions, almost supernatural in appearance by dint of the fact that they should not be there. Trees, common sense tells us, were designed to climb into the air rooted in solid ground, not water, and they certainly weren’t meant to be found submerged beneath lakes, slowly rotting away like skeletons of their former selve"
