WE ARE STILL ALIVE, SAILING ON!

Just check our pulse and I can confirm that we are still alive and kicking. It might not seem like it, but we still have intentions to keep going strong and spread our message. Yesterday I (bluzark) realised that our little project was celebrating it's 5th birthday. Holy shit..

I've been telling myself to give ourself a new kickstart.. without success. But now it is time to get things going. I am adding 3 friends as editors to boost our content and revive Zone of the Free.

To continue this part of our revolution and share it with the world.

I PROMISE!

A promise I must fullfill since I have been getting several messages from worried readers.. so to especially to you guys who reached out to us about why we stopped posting I promise to get things going. We have new blood on it's way.. plans to invest more time in promoting artists and much more.. bear with me.

5 YEARS.. and nobody is stopping us.

VOTE FOR "GAS" IN THE BIG BROTHER AWARDS 2013

Our local League of Human Rights requested me to post this but Gmail decided that the message sent to us was spam. Better late than never..

Big Brother Award voor GAS?

Persbericht – 22 april 2013

Laten we Big Brother toe in ons leven of zeggen we volmondig “GAS? Nee bedankt!”?

Big Brother is echt overal!

COUNTER-ECONOMICS AND THE COUNTERCULTURE

Few weeks ago I discovered a blog called Propaganda Lalaland when I stumbled upon the article "Anarchists Want To Force You Into Anarchism!". Satisfied by a good short read I bookmarked it in my unsorted, personal nightmare, list of pages I should keep track off. Should.. I gave up on RSS because it feeds me with too much information I want to read, yet can't due to lack of time or just can't make up my mind and end up doodling something random on basically anything. Rediscovered my love for just drawing whatever whenever, so I bought myself a shitload of pencils, erasers and sharpies. Staring at my collection while writing this I noticed that alot of sharpies are missing. Note to self, stop ruining them on walls and other hard/rough materials. My list of casualties peaked this month and I am basically throwing money away :D Anyway.. in other news, the writer of  Propaganda Lalaland posted a new article this weekend and here I am telling you about it. Going for at least one person to sit trough my rant and actually click the URL below! Don't let me down.

My sunday, drove home when I was sober-ish.. spent hours starting several projects in Illustrator (of wish some I might finish this week, that would be great actually with our trip to the east of Česká republika coming up in 3 weeks. Kicking off the teknival season/summer! Taking our own sound with us, collaborating with our friends and fellow astronauts from Kierewiet creating a bigger and better experience for those who are coming. Hopefully Gagamous Kierewiet finally finds his way back home, since he is missing in action since mid February 2013 after hosting a night in Ostrava. So whoever took him, here is your chance to regain your dignity and make that trip to Klokočov. Man up (this includes women) and reunite Gagamous with his family.

M.I.A. since 02/2013 - last seen in Ostrava, CZ

Those who are just clicking trough and go straight for the link.
Click here "Counter-Economics and the Counterculture".
Everything above is barely related anyway..
so don't bother and start reading that article :D

SQUAT FOR YOUR RIGHT TO PARTY

by Gabriela Dworecki - squat-for-your-right-to-party.info

The documentary follows Matraka Sound System, a Spanish crew located in Madrid, on their quest to find a location for a celebration of free party/squat party culture. Filmed in Madrid in the summer of 2007, nearly 20 years after the birth of the free party movement, this documentary offers a glimpse of the constantly mutating underground electronic music scene. It's history, challenges, achievements and evolution can be viewed, through the lens of other social and political movements that break from the safe and familiar conventions of their original subcultures. Situated in a context of continual repression and public resistance, the film turns a subjective eye on a growing divide from within the scene, where critical self-assessment calls into question the validity of theories, notably those of Hakim Bey, that have been historically used to justify the movement itself.

REVOLUTION OR REVOLUTION

revolution & Revolution

There seems to be, in anarchist (and probably all radical) circles, this idea of The Revolution. A mythical day always just a few years away when the people will all rise up and throw off their chains, finally seeing the light and becoming truly free.

This comes from an idealization of past revolutions and is neither fair to the revolutionaries who participated nor is it fair to us. They were no “better” than we are, except perhaps in understanding that all the armchair philosophy in the world isn’t going to make things better.

That’s why they went out and did it. And by “it” I don’t mean a full scale insurrection, though that happened sometimes. I mean helping those who need it, forming groups to disseminate information to the public at large, working together to provide food and healthcare to those who couldn’t afford it, etc.

It is these “small revolutions,” these ways of taking back control here and now, that will inspire people. It is these small, itty bitty revolutions that show how we, not by handing over our desires to experts to tell us whether or not they’re feasible, but by finding a way to make shit happen, prove that voluntary cooperation is not only freer but more effective than anything the state attempts to do.

When Food Not Bombs feeds more people for less money than some state-funded soup kitchen, it not only creates allies, but it reveals the state for the hulking mass of ineptitude that it is.

Pirate radio stations, shared transportation, infoshops… these aren’t a joke. They aren’t “small time.” They’re the whole shebang. They’re the core of what we’re doing. They are anarchy existing under the state, and they are the slight hope that maybe, just maybe, once we get the ball rolling, we’ll get our Revolution after all.

THE CYCLOWN CIRUS

We cycle from town to town, looking for a place to stay, co-operating with locals and the community and performing in the street or at a pre-arranged locations (usually some kind of Social centre) and giving workshops after the event if we have time. Getting up to 15 people on working bikes, fed, amused, happy, well rested and ready to perform to their best for popcorn is a vast achievement in itself! The show has to be seen to be believed - it involves live music, live accidents, clowning, tightrope, monocycling, bike jousting, diabolo, juggling, acrobatics, magic, fire spitting and dancing, acrobalance, trapeze and incredible jumping mad Mexican bean chaos! It is a great experience meeting people from a vastly varied ways of life, learning about other attitudes, languages, history, the world today, nature and how to keep a team of clueless foreigners, entertaining, laughing and creating with a bunch of junk we carry with us.

THE FUCK-IT POINT

A film about the dark side of civilization, why we should bring it down and why most civilized people don't.

[THE FUCK-IT POINT]
'When you have had enough. When you decide to take matter into your own hands and don't care what's going to happen to you.

Support distribution and future projects: savagerevival.chipin.com

About

People from civilization are fast to point out that we cannot “go back” to hunting and gathering “stone age life”, there isn’t enough wild game left for us all and wild fruits and plants cannot fill our stomachs. But look at societies with “stone age” techniques; their minimum consumption, their ability to self sustain without degrading the land or make non-human species go extinct and their ability to survive extreme conditions. In contrast it is blatantly obvious that if the civilized continue the path they are on we are all heading for disaster.

There seem to be no way to sustain civilization any longer, but that might not be such a bad thing for the rest of the world, because its collapse is taking place due to a larger collapse: the collapse of cultural diversity and the loss of biodiversity famously called earths sixth major extinction event which is the dark side of the progress of civilization

THE PRIVATIZATION OF CREATIVITY

The Privatization of Creativity
The Ruse of "Creative Capitalism"
by Max Haiven / May 9th, 2012

Published @ Dissident Voice

The problem with the new hype around creativity is that it presumes that the economic system we have, with all its gross injustices and horrifying effects (global warming, child poverty, unrewarding jobs, imperial warfare, the exploitation of the third world), is inevitable. It doesn’t really imagine that everyone will get to express their creativity and enjoy the life of the artist. In fact, the new hype over creativity actually (ironically) makes us less creative in how we think about social problems and solutions. It makes creativity an individualized thing, the “private property” of each isolated person.

[...]

What capitalism does, in effect, is fundamentally shift what we could call the “economy of creativity”: it drastically alters what sorts of creativity we think are valuable and it focuses humanity’s creative energies towards earning ever greater profit for a few. While this system has produced many fine things, it is destroying the planet and most people’s lives because it has no broad vision of a decent future. It is driven only by irrational and pathological competition for profit, not by any compassionate and collective social vision. Imagine what the world would be like if we focused our creativity and energy towards other ends?

[...]

What will be key for organizers and activists fighting within and against the hype of creative capitalism, whether they are fighting worker exploitation or neighbourhood gentrification, will be acknowledging that the promise of creativity, while hollow, truly does move many people. It is precisely because our world offers so few substantive opportunities for creative expressions and efficacy that the rhetoric of creativity is so appealing. Creativity is valuable. Our task can be limited neither to pointing out that creativity is a carrot, nor showing that along with that carrot is the stick of brutal global economic terror. Nor can it be a flight into the most esoteric and self-reflexive forms of creative expression in a vain hope to avoid commodification. Instead, we need to focus on making it clear that real, deep creativity can never be achieved as an individual possession but is always a collective process, bound up with values of equality, social justice and community. In other words, the promise of creativity can only be fulfilled in a very different society than ours. Creativity must embrace its tradition, potential and promise as a key part of cultivating critical, revolutionary communities that resist capitalism, colonialism, gender oppression and racism and create fierce and sustainable alternatives within and against the status quo. Creativity is, in part, the way we refuse our current “reality” and, in a very small and often abstract way, propose or model something different. When creativity joins, supports and critiques social movements for radical change, or when it helps imagine and build the post-capitalist society of the future in the present, it is at its very best.

FREE UNLIKE U

From unlike-u.com:

ON OUR OWN BEHALF: Free stream available for you!

From now on we make the full version of UNLIKE U available to all of you here. As we spent a lot of time and put in a lot of lifeblood on working on that movie we would like to give everybody the opportunity to see the outcome.

Maybe some of you have noticed that we as the moviemakers and producers are recently fighting legally for the ongoing distribution of UNLIKE U.

The Berlin transport company (BVG) has sued us in order to refrain us from distributing the movie regarding the places the action documented in UNLIKE U took place in.
To understand all of this you’ve got to see the movie yourself.

Recently more and more people are asking how they could support us.
Therefore we opened a support account for legal fees and for the preservation of UNLIKE U.

Thanks to everyone who is down with us.

JUST DO IT: A TALE OF MODERN-DAY OUTLAWS

STORYLINE (source IMDB)
The world of environmental direct action has remained a secretive one, until now. Emily James spent over a year embedded in activist groups such as Climate Camp and Plane Stupid to document their clandestine activities. With unprecedented access, Just do It takes you on an astonishing journey behind the scenes of a community of people who refuse to sit back and allow the destruction of their world. Torpedoing the tired clichés of the environmental movement, Just Do It introduces you to a powerful cast of mischievous and inspiring characters who put their bodies in the way; they super-glue themselves to bank trading floors, blockade factories and attack coal power stations en-masse, despite the very real threat of arrest. Their adventures will entertain, illuminate and inspire.

THE ANTICS ROADSHOW

An hour-long special made by Banksy charting the history of behaving badly in public, from anarchists and activists to attention seeking eccentrics.

Contributors include Michael Fagan talking about breaking into the Queen's bedroom: 'I looked into her eyes, they were dark'; and Noel Godin, who pioneered attacking celebrities with custard pies: 'Instead of a bullet I give them a cake'.

Explaining his reasoning behind the show, Banksy said: 'Basically I just thought it was a good name for a TV programme and I've been working back from there'.

Narrated by Kathy Burke and produced by Jamie D'cruz, The Antics Roadshow examines the stories behind some of the most audacious stunts of recent times and what motivates the perpetrators, from mindless boredom to heartfelt political beliefs.

It includes a world exclusive first interview with the man responsible for putting the turf Mohican on Winston Churchill's head.
