MUTANT DANCE

A HTV Documentary that aired on 02/06/1997 documenting the UK based Mutant Dance Party Collective and Bristol Free Party Crew gearing up for a free party they realized on 14/09/1996.

Introduction to Mutant Dance in their own words;

"MUTANT DANCE is a Bristol based collaboration of party people and artists specializing in UV performance and decor. Founded in 1991, Mutant Dance have been involved in the renowned Bristol party scene since the early days of Acid House parties. Now taking that vibe all over England and Europe we bring our free party roots to clubs and festivals wherever we go. We also put on regular free parties in the South West of England.
(Note to PC Netplod: We are making all this up, we know nothing about illegal warehouse raves or anything else for that matter.)
The Mutants have performed extensively in the UK and Europe, appearing at Glastonbury, Ashton Court Festival, Tribal Gathering, Megadog (Lizard), Trance Buddha (Amsterdam), Munich, Out There (Normandy), most major UK clubs and festivals, and various free parties throughout Europe.
enter Mutant Dance can add a unique live element to any club environment or party. With our mix of freaky costumes and boundless energy we guarantee to liven up any event. Our UV performers, costumed dancers, or outrageous environments, provide an extra dimension of scene setting and sensory stimulation. Mutate and survive..."

I thought it might interest you that Bristol ravers Mutant Dance staged a
free party at Stonehenge last Saturday night/Sunday morning for the equinox.
We set up a Fluoro geodesic dome behind the visitors centre, lit with UV and
partied all night 'til the druids arrived. Come sunrise they let not only
the druids, but 150 or so assorted free party people into the circle for an
hour. Even the solitary copper was chilled.....

SEVENUM SIX

Ahh.. good old Jimmy. I feel old thinking about the time he started creating music.. Sevenum Six is one of the artists I have witnessed grow from a front row seat. Evolving over the years into an excellent artist. I wouldn't want to trade in that front row ticket for anything else in the world.. it is amazing to see these guys live up to their potential.. enjoying it and blasting out mental vibes for for your ears to please. Even after getting his gear stolen twice!
Support this guy!

BIO (excerpt from Soundcloud)

At the the age of 17 Sevenum Six fell in love with the production of music. Inspired by the free party scene he started making some hardtek beats in Fruity Loops. After a while of messing arround he discided he wanted to bring his music to the crowd so he changed to Ableton Live. To make his sound more complete he added some hardware to his setup like the korg EMX, EAMK2, a Mopho and some midi controllers. By searching deeper into the world of hardware he discovered the magic sound of the TB303. Meanwhile over the years his sound evolved, getting more dark and mental. After 3 years he became a well known artist in the free party scene and played at party's all over the Netherlands, France and Belgium. Doing this he got the chanse to spread his sound in many places. As a result he got his first vinyl release in 2011 and many to follow... By getting involved with vinyl he also wanted to play them so he bought himself 2 turntables and the shit was really on !! Today Sevenum Six is actively working on bringing you an original sounding liveset and fresh vinylmixes.

And so his passion for the music keeps growing everyday…

BASSLINE BASELINE

 "BASSLINE BASELINE"

A wicked documentary about the history of the Roland TB-303 Bassline Synth by director Nate Harrison.

Bassline Baseline is a video essay that investigates the invention, failure and subsequent resurrection of the mythic Roland TB-303 Bass Line music machine in the last two decades of the 20th century. The narrative seeks to invite thoughts on technological mediation within product innovation and creative expression. The dead-panned 'documentary' video attempts to explore how and why creative tools fail and how increasingly more options, parameters or intermediaries devised during a tool's research and development phase don't necessarily lead to increased expressivity or virtuosity during the tool's lifetime of actual use, unless the super-structure of its cultural context is dramatically reconsidered.

PUMP UP THE VOLUME

The origins of the term "house" are disputed.

The term may have its origin from a Chicago nightclub called The Warehouse which existed from 1977 to 1982. The Warehouse was patronized primarily by gay black and Latino men, who came to dance to disco music played by the club's resident DJ, Frankie Knuckles. Although Knuckles left the club in 1982 and it was renamed Music Box, the term "house", short for Warehouse, is said to have become popular among Chicagoans as being synonymous with Knuckles' musical selections as a DJ before becoming associated with his own dance music productions, even though those didn't begin until well after the closure of The Warehouse.
In the Channel 4 documentary Pump Up The Volume, Knuckles remarks that the first time he heard the term "house music" was upon seeing "we play house music" on a sign in the window of a bar on Chicago's South Side. One of the people in the car with him joked, "you know, that's the kind of music you play down at the Warehouse!", and then everybody laughed. South-Side Chicago DJ Leonard "Remix" Rroy, in self-published statements, claims he put such a sign in a tavern window because it was where he played music that one might find in one's home; in his case, it referred to his mother's soul & disco records, which he worked into his sets.

PUMP UP THE VOLUME is a three-part documentary series looking at the history of house music broadcasted by Channel 4 in 2001.

I. "A Time To Jack" - Looks at the roots of house music in 1976 in Chicago and New York and features many of the innovators and DJs involved in house music and the clubs that specialised in them.

II. "Can You Feel It" - Looks at the rise of house music 1986-1989, firstly in northern clubs, and how the increasing use of the drug Ecstasy led to the development of Acid House music. Also considers rave culture and clashes with the authorities over unofficial rave events.

III. "From Hardcore To Handbag" - Looks at how house music's influence has led to a whoe range of musical genres, such as jungle, garage, hardcore, 2-step and drum and bass. Covers the period 1990 to date and considers the demise of the original house music scene due to increasing concerns over ecstasy use, legal clamp-downs and the commercialisation of rave culture. Also the rise in status of the DJ. Includes interviews with Godie, Leftfield, The Dreem Teem and Artful Dodger, and features Masters at Work and Armand Van Helden.
