A little addition to the FREEPARTY-CLOPEDIA that was handed out during the NYE multisound in Belgium last weekend. Our goal was to make people more aware about their own trash and actions when they wander the building being used for a TAZ.

WE ARE STILL ALIVE, SAILING ON!

Just check our pulse and I can confirm that we are still alive and kicking. It might not seem like it, but we still have intentions to keep going strong and spread our message. Yesterday I (bluzark) realised that our little project was celebrating it's 5th birthday. Holy shit..

I've been telling myself to give ourself a new kickstart.. without success. But now it is time to get things going. I am adding 3 friends as editors to boost our content and revive Zone of the Free.

To continue this part of our revolution and share it with the world.

A promise I must fullfill since I have been getting several messages from worried readers.. so to especially to you guys who reached out to us about why we stopped posting I promise to get things going. We have new blood on it's way.. plans to invest more time in promoting artists and much more.. bear with me.

OUR LITTLE LIBRARY HAS BEEN MAINTENANCED

First of all ZONE of the FREE (ZotF) had it's 4th birthday somewhere this year.. so Happy Belated Birthday and whatnot. Although our activity has decreased we are still alive and kicking. Despite our 725 posts run in 2010 our goal was never to create a blog with regular updates. ZotF was created as a goto source to find information about the history of free tekno. Since that information was scattered all over this internet or disappearing even we took action and found yours truly for everyone to discover and explore.

Today I noticed that a lot of posts people run into posts that contain dead links to our uploads since our fileserver died ages ago. Since our blog is now autonomous I felt the need to make sure all information we ever published is accessible. That includes uploads. So as of today our little library it back online for the time being.. hopefully. All literature under the tags BOOK and EBOOK should be accessible and free to download.

TEMPORARY AUTONOMOUS ZONE - a book embraced by the rave culture since it perfectly outlines the free party scene. Also available in Dutch and French.

TECHNOMAD: GLOBAL RAVING COUNTERCULTURES - not available for download but worth every cent buying. A cultural history of global electronic dance music countercultures.

FreeNRG: Notes From the Edge of the Dance Floor - a collection of 13 essays written by specialists and affiliates of a spectrum of youth phenomena found at the edge of the dance floor. Especially worth reading if you are interested in the DiY culture.

NO SYSTEM - Vinca Petersen tells you her story as a nomad or (free tekno) traveler with stunning pictures. Again worth buying, no download available.

THE NUMBER 23 FOR DUMMIES - this post contains the everything you need to know about the number 23 since it is so often used in the free tekno scene.

LIVESET MAY-HEM RECAP

Maybe you did or didn't notice that last month we posted more livesets then before. This has no particular reason, except for the urge to share free tekno, promote artists or upload their work as a tribute. These downloads are can be accessed directly from our host who is kind enough to let us and our readers abuse his bandwidth.

Those who have no clue what a RAR file is might want to consult Wikipedia. It is a compressed file just like the standard ZIP file which needs to be unpacked. To unpack a RAR file you can use WinRAR (not free) or any other tool suitable. Since I prefer and support open source freeware, I would advice 7-Zip. Good luck :D

SPRING CLEAN-UP

What started as an idea, became an addiction. Informing you about what we care about, what we stand for. The roots of it, the present and the future. With almost 300 posts and counting it is hard to resist gathering information and spreading the word. It is great how people from all over the world find their way here without any advertisement. People must be informed and evolve!

Most of our posts are timeless and will (hopefully) be useful to some even within 5 years and beyond that. That is why I am having a spring clean-up. Replacing dead images and links. Adding loads of new labels to guide you to things that might interest you. The idea behind this mother-load of labels is that you might bump into something new within your interest without knowing it was there. (Duh)
