MAX HEADROOM - 20 MINUTES INTO THE FUTURE

Max Headroom: 20 Minutes into the Future is a 1985 cyberpunk television movie created by Chrysalis Visual Programming Ltd. for Channel 4 in the UK to provide a back story for Max Headroom, a computer generated TV host. A British produced, yet American broadcast, television series, Max Headroom, was later developed from the original film.

The film introduces Edison Carter (Matt Frewer), a television reporter trying to expose corruption and greed. In the movie, reporter Carter discovers that his employer, Network 23, has created a new form of subliminal advertising (termed "blip-verts") that can be fatal to certain viewers.

While attempting to flee the network headquarters with proof, Edison suffers a serious head injury, caused by striking a low-clearance sign labelled "Max. Headroom". Believing him killed, the network's chief executive orders Bryce Lynch, an adolescent genius working as a scientist for Network 23, to digitally record Carter's mind. The recording will then be used to create a computer-based replacement for Carter in order to hide his death.

However, Bryce's programme is flawed and apparently broken — burbling "Max Headroom" over and over again (from the last object Carter saw before being knocked out, and the first thing the albeit-primitive Max says while twitching into what would become his smooth latex form). Bryce instructs his hired goons to dispose of both Carter and his virtual clone, but they simply sell them on — Carter to a body bank, and the machine copy to pirate television station ("Big Time") owner Blank Reg.

After a bit of nurturing from Reg, the resulting program achieves a somewhat eccentric life of its own, crackling out rapid fire gags, hosting his own show, and sending Reg's ratings through the roof.

Meanwhile, a merely unconscious Carter escapes from becoming a premature organ donor. With the help of colleague Theora Jones (Amanda Pays), and the distraction provided by Max, Carter eventually defeats Network 23. - wikipedia

Max Headroom - Episode 1

Max Headroom is a British-produced American science fiction television series by Chrysalis/Lakeside Productions that aired in the United States on ABC from March 1987 to May 1988. The series was based on the Channel 4 British TV pilot Max Headroom: 20 Minutes into the Future. The series is often mistaken as an American-produced show due to the setting and its use of an almost entirely US cast along with being broadcast in the USA on the ABC network. Cinemax aired the UK pilot followed by a six-week run of highlights from The Max Headroom Show, a music video show where Headroom appears between music videos. ABC took an interest in the pilot and asked Chrysalis/Lakeside to produce the series for US audiences.

The show went into production in late 1986 and ran for six episodes in the first season with eight being produced in season two. - wikipedia

ROA @ SAN FRANCISCO

Roa @ White Walls Gallery- San Francisco

April 9- May 7, 2011

Street artist ROA got his start by painting intriguing murals of animals in hidden places – underneath bridges and on walls that strayed from the beaten path. A darling of the underground street art scene, photos of his work regularly appear on Vandalog, Brooklyn Street Art, Wooster Collective, Unurth, and a fury of London newspapers and blogs running to his defense when a street piece he did in Hackney faced removal late last year. ROA is earnestly repopulating the cityscape with animals, as a way to have them re-enter the contemporary landscape that was once theirs. With a style all his own.

AMAZING ANIMATION (HUNTER S. THOMPSON THEMED)

I would never post an advertisement.. but this one is an absolutely amazing animation inspired by Hunter S. Thompson. Don't worry.. we still support an ad free world :D ADBUSTING!

It is not very often that we have the opportunity to create a graphic equivalent of a drug fueled rant bringing all of our collective skills to bear. And it is almost unfathomable that we could actually do something like this and benefit a good cause.

The Buck team dug deep, channeling our inner gonzo, to direct and produce this homage promoting Good Books, the online bookseller that passes all its profits through to Oxfam. A big thanks to String Theory in NZ for bringing us this script, Antfood for their amazing audio stylings, to Thor for giving his voice and to all the artists who made this something we are proud of.

ROMAIN GAVRAS VIDEO'S

Not the kind of music you're used of us, I know. Romain Gavras is a real interesting videoclip director. He has a harsh realistic style & is not afraid to show violent scenes. Still, it isn't "gratuit". He has a deeper message and tells us something about modern society.

Check out the videos below!

Jus†ice, Stress from ROMAIN-GAVRAS on Vimeo.

The 27-year-old French director is a co-founder of Kourtrajmé, a 136-member art and filmmaking collective in Paris that incorporates hip-hop and graffiti sensibilities into stylish music videos and socially conscious documentaries. Romain-Gavras formed it with friend Kim Chapiron in 1995. "We started Kourtrajmé because the new techniques allowed us to do films without money," Romain-Gavras says. "We needed only a video camera and motivated friends." Don't be fooled. Kourtrajmé is not some Kumbaya love cult. Its projects fixate on social provocation.

A recent video directed by Romain-Gavras for the Justice song "Stress" depicts a leather-jacketed gang roaming the streets of Paris, snatching purses, vandalizing cars, smashing tourists' cameras, and assaulting innocent bystanders, with a film crew capturing onlookers' expressions. The action looks real, or, at least, uncomfortably close to real. "I didn't try to do something controversial, otherwise I would have put whores and Nazis in it," says the director. "The idea was to make a really violent video to match the music. It's shot in a realistic way. Lots of people thought it was true."

Undisputedly authentic is the Kourtrajmé-produced documentary 365 Jours à Clichy Montfermeil, which follows a 2005 clash between police and residents in a largely Muslim Paris suburb and culminates in a government-ordered attack on a mosque. Several directors are in the collective, and actor Vincent Cassel has starred in some of the productions. "I know how to handle a very small crew and shoot in a very natural way," says Romain-Gavras. He is currently writing his first feature film, which will be produced by Cassel. "My aim is to create strong European icons. I love American movies, but most young European directors just try to imitate Yankee films. It doesn't work." The seemingly ragtag outfit has a sterling legacy: Romain-Gavras's father is Costa-Gavras, director of acclaimed American films Missing (1982) and Betrayed (1988). "I've always been told that directing was something good," says Romain-Gavras, who started making Video8 films at age 14 using his family's two VCRs as an editing deck. "Not a gypsy job like most parents seem to think."
