"Police Brutality" by Combat Wombat
Dragonfly Animation's video clip to Australian political hip hop group Combat Wombat's song 'Police Brutality' is a mixture of animated stiillls and footage from the protests at Beverly uranium Mine and Pine Gap US Military Base in the central desert.
Combat Wombat are an outspoken troupe of hip hop punks mainly located in Melbourne. Armed with only samplers, mics and turntables, powered by solar energy and an uncompromising belief in Truth over Spin, these desert nomads are the real deal, creating an album that reflects the frontline activism they have become famous for. They delve into issues of national identity, the government's treatment of refugees, indigenous sovereignty, US military force and uranium mining with a sense of urgency that is balanced by their ability to turn words into action.

At Combat Wombat's core is the Lab Rats Solar Sound System, which was formed at the Jabiluka uranium mine protests in 1998. Monkey Marc and MC Izzy are Australian pioneers of vegetable oil conversions for diesel engines (which will also fuel their upcoming national tour). Their fully equipped mobile studio runs off the solar panels on the van's roof, and their record Unsound $ystem was written and recorded using this same eco-friendly energy.
The LabRats go anywhere and everywhere we can get to. From the desert blockades in South Australia to the Forest blockades of Victoria to events like Reclaim the Streets all over... to free parties and benefits in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Darwin. To remote Aboriginal communities near Coober Pedy and Alice Springs.... to Tasmania and back again.
They made a video called Tunin' Technology to explain their vegie oil car, wind powered cinema and solar powered sound system.

MUTONIA SCULPTURE PARK - PART ONE
Every year in the winter the co-found of Mutoid Waste Company (MWC), Robin 'Mutoid' Cooke, returns to his Mutonia Sculpture Park to build a new sculpture providing a rich visual backdrop to his ideas and work. It is located in the outback of South Australia at Alberrie Creek somewhere near the historical Oodnadatta Track near the Old Ghan Railway. I tried locating it on Google Maps, but even with instructions from Robin Mutoid I was unable to locate the exact location, so I went for the area where it should be. If you are interested you can also find a review on a trip trough the Oodnadatta Track on Travelingoz.com.au, which is also the source of most pictures below. This is one of those places I am dying to visit, really looks awesome.

Edit: So I did find the exact location after all, -29.623129,137.542775, confirmed with a geotagged picture. So I could have been smarter and searched Panoramio and save me some time, but of course I chose the hard way and tracked it down myself not knowing there was an easy way. I should have known..
Marking the entrance of Mutonia Sculpture Park is the Kombi-Gate. The Kombi is a classic VW van that became a symbol of outback travel over the years. It was mutated many times in sculptures by MWC all over the world. Such as in this famous car-henge setup below. The first car-henge was built by Robin Mutoid when travellers were told they could not visit stone henge, so built a version of it using scrap cars.
You should recognize this picture since it was taken from FreeNRG: Notes From the Edge of the Dance Floor edited by Graham St John. If you haven't read it yet, you might want to give it a peak, it won't hurt you. Not all books are boring.
Directly behind Kombi-Gate you will find one of the first sculptures by Robin Mutoid at Alberrie Creek. Using a couple of Beechcraft Baron light aircraft, American-made light aircraft from Moorabbin Airport, he created Plane-Henge. The aircrafts were lifted by hand by a group of about 50 people. Must have been one hell of a lift but a great achievement to treasure.

Après plus de 20 ans d'existence, forcé de constater que la free party, cette comète qui a marqué
nos vies et mis en appétit nos plus folles espérances, n'est plus que l'ombre d'elle-même.
Les valeurs et les espoirs que l'on trouvait dans ces fêtes sont aujourd'hui éteints,
ou tellement affaiblis que l'on n'en discerne plus la lueur en ces pénombres actuelles qu'elles traversent.
Jetons un dernier regard sur ce que sont devenues ces fêtes aujourd'hui, avant de clore le chapitre
et de s'ouvrir sur l'avenir.
La free party est aujourd'hui ce qu'elle aurait pu être de pire : un CLICHÉ.
Et la carte postale n'est pas belle. On défendait des valeurs écologiques, des idées de retour à la nature,
et voilà qu'aujourd'hui on pourrit tout, plus sauvagement encore que ne le faisaient ceux que l'on considère
comme nos ennemis. Ici, le saccage est gratuit.
On revendiquait des idées d'ouverture, de découverte, de recherche et d'innovation artistique, et voilà qu'en tout domaine ces valeurs sont renversées :

* La musique se standardise et se referme sur elle-même et le public n'en demande pas mieux.
* Les autres activités artistiques ne se renouvellent pas, elles s'amoindrissent au contraire,
et rien de nouveau ne vient alimenter la fête qui s'étouffe et agonise.
* La drogue n'est plus là à des fins initiatiques, mais est utilisée de manière barbare, irréfléchie, insensée.
D'outil, elle est devenue PRODUIT.
* Les gens ne fraternisent plus, ils sont anesthésiés par les produits,
refermés sur eux-mêmes, paranoïaques, violents, avides d'argent. Ils ont reproduit en pire l'ambiance
et les schémas sociaux habituels dans ces îlots d'espoir qu'étaient les free.
* La fête, de lieu de liberté et d'expérimentation, est devenue supermarché grotesque,
prétexte à tous les abus et à toutes les incohérences.
Elle a perdu son âme, et tout le monde semble s'en contenter. C'est le règne de l'absurde.

La free party n'est plus qu'un prétexte pour détruire et se détruire. Certes, beaucoup de contre-exemples,
beaucoup de petits espoirs peuvent çà et là remettre en doute ces propos, mais une observation générale
montre bien à quel point la chose est pervertie.
Il faut aujourd'hui continuer à se battre sur d'autres terrains, en d'autres lieux et de manière différente.
Rien n'est jamais fini, et surtout pas l'espoir. Autre chose va naître, ailleurs, sous une autre forme,
c'est peut-être déjà en cours et c'est à nous d'être assez vigilant pour y participer.

La dialectique peut elle casser des briques?
La dialectique peut-elle casser des briques est un film se rattachant au mouvement situationniste initié entre autres par Guy Debord. Il s'agit du détournement d'un film de kung-fu chinois (The Crush, 1972) dans lequel des pratiquants de taekwondo coréens s'opposent à des oppresseurs japonais. Le détournement cinématographique est une pratique visant à récupérer un film déjà réalisé et commercialisé en changeant le discours des personnages (post-doublage). Le dialogue original est remplacé par un autre dialogue, généralement à portée humoristique.
Le scénario détourné relate comment des prolétaires tentent de venir à bout de bureaucrates violents et corrompus grâce à la dialectique et à la subjectivité radicale. La violence est finalement choisie du fait de l'incapacité des bureaucrates à suivre un argument logique.
Le dialogue contient de nombreuses allusions à des révolutionnaires anticapitalistes (Marx, Bakounine, Wilhelm Reich), et évoque au passage des thèmes contemporains : conflits syndicaux, égalité des sexes, mai 68, gauche française et les situationnistes eux-mêmes.

At 7o'clock when the lights went on for the friday b-dayparty, we moved our soundsystem to a cosy friendly squat uptown. After driving to a small snowstorm to get there, we recieved a warm welcome in the oldest surviving TAZ in town & continued the music! 69db played a very long livejam session for us there, really amazing. We're pleased he recorded it, so we can share it with you!

STATE OF EMERGENCY
State of Emergency was a conference/festival/insurrection held in a reclaimed inner-city Melbourne warehouse, squatted and made public for four days over 21 - 24 May, 2004. It was a search for escape routes to galaxies where the word capitalism is untranslatable and to which people only respond with puzzled looks. It was a meeting-place, bar, cafe, cinema, music hall, accommodation and playspace.
This e-book is a collection of essays and articles relating to issues of globalisation, war on terror and fear politics, civil disobedience, squatting and contemporary organising models amongst disenfrachised communities which was distributed as part of the conference.
